WANDERLUST CERAMICS
CRAIG CRAWFORD [1981, TEXTILES]
Based in East Greenwich, RI
The majority of the ceramics produced in the studio of Wanderlust are tableware or sconces for the wall. Large decorative tiles and hand built wall pieces are also made, all of which provide a surface to decorate. The images and designs are from antique etchings, hand drawn patterns or sometimes stencils and stamps. A silk-screening technique is used to transfer the images which allows for the overlapping of pattern and endless combinations. Most of the color is added by hand after the first firing, then the pieces are glazed and re-fired. The image-driven work allows for the opportunity to provoke the viewer using humor and allegory.
