Rhythm, pattern making, light and color are recurrent themes in Julie Simpson’s handwoven, one of a kind textiles and mixed media paintings. Julie’s woven designs generate an elegant, sculptural quality with multiple layers. Weaving with natural fibers ensure a luxurious hand crafted textile. Equally colorful and textural as her fiber work, the surfaces of her mixed media paintings are adorned with layers of acrylic paint, paper collage, litho crayon and occasionally, hand stitched nylon thread. She is fond of abstract and figurative imagery. There is a reliance on gestural lines, repeated patterns, natural formations and microscopic details.
