ELOISE MAHONEY [1995, Arts Education]
Based in Providence, RI
As an artist and middle school art teacher for 20 years, Eloise Mahoney has been immersed in the creative process daily. Through developing art lessons as well as creating her own art — oil painting, printmaking, ceramics and hand embroidery she has been continually developing as an artist, maker, and fiber artist. Historically punch needling is a process where yarn is punched through a backing to create rugs. She is using the art form as an artful addition to a jacket. She is passionate about all stages of the punch needle process — developing and sketching the original designs, choosing the color palette of 100% wool yarn, punching needling the design and finally sewing the finished piece to the jacket. New buttons, label and care instructions are added to the jacket as well to create a one of a kind wearable work of art.
